The list of groups and organizations you've presented, do they all require that you pay dues to a local, then require you to pay more dues to the national organization in separate transaction on an annual basis? Local chapters pay dues as a chapter in most, if not all examples that you've given I'd think. That then charters the local chapter. We do that too.

The 110,000 or so members of the NHRA don't have to join another organization to participate in or attend any event in any of the seven regional districts encompassed by the national organization.
