Sheese! A guy asks a serious question, and all he gets is a lot of BS. I'd use a 1/8 inch drill bit. Be sure to use a high quality sharp bit and back the chip with a piece of 2x4 while drilling. This will prevent unsightly tearout on the back of the chip. I'd drill the hole about 1/4 inch from the edge of the chip. This way you won't have to worry about break-out, and it'll still leave room in the center for your information. Secure the chip to the basket usinng a length of #16 aluminum wire. The aluminum wire is nice because it won't rust, since undoubtably these baskets will be outdoors and damp. It also twists very easily.
