I used to try cases in Deadwood (and earlier be there as a law clerk to our federal judge). By the 1960's the Gold Bar was no longer offering gaming; I recall that in 1958 or 59 when the state Elks convention was in town that several of the joints including Saloon # 10 had their black tables open in their back rooms. It could be that the Gold Bar occasionally offered games through the 50's but in 1959 the Democratic Attorney General wiped out Deadwood's principle businesses--the red light district and open gambling. So after that I suspect there were no more games in the Gold Bar. I played bridge with the Gold Bar "owner" (tho he was a lessor of the joint from the Franklin Hotel); I have his name somewhere in my records but not my mind.
