<<I do not believe the club "has" to purchase any records. I do feel, for the reasons previously stated, that it is in the best interests of the
hobby to have historical information (including manufacturers records) in the club library/museum (that is, under the control of the club).>>
I agree with your above statement. I disagree on HOW the records get into our organization.
<<Over the long run, I believe this will benefit more than a "select few" as it will help make the hobby (and the club) stronger. Better
education (after all, that is what we are talking about) will make better collectors. Everyone will benefit from the continued growth of the
club and the hobby. More or less the same reason everyone pays for public schools, even those who have no children in them, or public
libraries and museums, even those who don't use them.>>
This is YOUR opinion with which I disagree. We are discussing benefits of the information. The direct benefit is to/for the individual who uses the information. Because of differing collecting areas few will use the information; ALL members will pay for it. Your school analogy does not apply. We are talking about a choice by OUR members. Too pay or not to pay - I vote, not to pay! Let the records be donated. The records are worthless to those who own them. The value rests with the interested party who wishes to access them. Let those who wish to access them - pay for them. Why is that concept so difficult for you to agree with????? Best, Jim
