"Ask them...not me." JB
John: There is no question that you are the leading outspoken on-line proponent in favor of the club purchasing these records. Your multiple public pronouncements supporting this issue bears out the obvious. Call me "silly" if you wish and dismiss everything that others have said who oppose the club purchasing these records. I can handle that. The fact remains that many club members are NOT in favor of spending significant amounts of dues money on projects that very few members will benefit from.
My position is that since these records stand little chance of being donated to the club and the donor taking a legitimate tax deduction for the donation to a federally recognized tax-exempt educational organization..... those club members who wish to voluntarily preserve these records and help absorb the aquisition cost by pledging a sizeable portion of the eventual purchase price, would go along ways in demonstrating their sincerity.
The entire club should not be assessed a blanket dues increase for this aquisition that nobody wants to go on record how much should be paid for them, because a few dozen on-line chippers (at the most) think it is a good idea.
I think it is a bad idea; one that will set precedence for future 100% club financed aquisitions. You think it is a good idea. That's where we disagree... and you think I'm silly about my position because it differs dramatically from yours. O.K. John, I'll admit to being silly. What does that make you?
