You seem to be talking about two things:

1. Using eBay as the venue for the annual Club auction, and perhaps other auctions (tournament chips?) as well. I have no problem with this, but then, I have no real interest in it either, since I'm an antique chipguy, not a casino chipguy.

2. The idea that you seem to want the Club to get involved with "venting" other people's auctions, and have seller's come to the Club for "pre-approval" of their descriptions, in order to get some seal of approval, and then to have these "approved" sellers pay a fee to the club, raises a lot of questions in my mind.

First, who would decide who is "qualified and reputable", and who would decide exactly what is puffery and what is good salesmanship?

Where is the standard of condition grading that would be applied to the chips offered by "approved" sellers? Who's opinion would be used, or is there a concrete set of standards I'm not aware of?

Who would specify the "Expected Fair Market Value" you refer to? Wouldn't that interfere with the auction process itself? Aren't the bidders supposed to decide the market value, not the sellers?

I think Jim's original idea was to use eBay to expand the venue for the annual auction to include members and nonmembers who could not attend the annual convention. I supported that proposal, and still do. I'm not so sure his intention was to turn the club into some sort of "Official Sanctioning Body of Internet Chip Auctions".

Maybe that was his intention though ............
