Gene,
I don't think Jim Pierre is kidding. I believe that he believes record buying by the club is a serious issue. I have stated in the past and I will state again MY OPINION. I am against OUR CLUB using OUR dues to purchase records for any purpose.
The issue has nothing to do with being cheap. It has everything to do with CONTROL. I do not want control of the records in the hands of our club. The records if they become available should be purchased by individuals who can than sell or give the information away to whoever wants it. Our club is a non profit organization staffed with volunteers. The volunteers do not need another responsibility as custodian for a bunch of records. Let those who benefit from the information pay for the information.
I have one of the best personal libraries on Las Vegas and Nevada in general. I did not ask our club to pay for it. I paid for the paper as it became available. I did not ask anyone including our organization to underwrite the cost.
It is my opinion and I voice it here. I will not support any candidate who advocates the purchase by OUR club of records. I am sorry but I feel very strong about this issue. I am not against a building in our future. I am not against "growing" the organization. However, I am against our club underwriting the purchase of records by increasing the dues. I believe this would be a mistake. Thank you for allowing me to express my opinion. Best, Jim
