We spent $7000 +/- on the food for the opening reception and we charged the members nothing. Let's say we went to a buffet with a guarantee of not running out of food at $30 If we charged the members $20 and 200 people paid to go we would have a net cost to the Club of $2000 ($30-$20=$10 x 200=$2000). In effect the Club saves $5000.
I am not advocating the Club subsidize the reception, I'm just trying to use the same example as mentioned in Paul's post.
Dick is correct, we pay $10,000 whether we order any food or not. Obviously it makes sense to get something for our money.
If we charge for the reception the Club meets it's $10,000 minimum and the all the money does not come out of Club funds.
Hope this doesn't muddy the water even more.
