There is quite a bit of talk in threads below about the two trade sessions and overcrowding. I find it hard to imagine how Wayne can even begin to plan something like this, having no real idea how many people will attend.
Perhaps that is one more reason that there should be a registration of some sort for the convention. My thinking is that everyone would receive a registration packet in the mail that they would return to the organizer. This packet could have a check list of convention events and each person could check off the events they planned to attend. Of course they could change their mind and attend more or less than what they indicate, but it would at least give the event organizer something to work from.
Maybe this wouldn't be any use to Wayne. I don't know for sure as I haven't talked to him about it. But, if it would be useful then I am all for it.
I also would not mind at all paying a fee to attend the convention. Perhaps the money could be used by the convention organizers to hire out some of the tasks that they are doing themselves now. If there was a fee then it should increase by a small amount for people who don't get their registration packets returned by a certain date. How useful can the information be if it is late? Also, one would have to waive the late penalty for our newest members who join the club after the initial registration deadline.
I believe that we are truly blessed to have people like Wayne and Belinda working on the convention for us. How many more of these top notch people do we have out there that are willing to take over when they "retire"? If we aren't willing to pay a small registration fee now that might help the organizers do their jobs then we may very well end up paying a large registration fee in the future.
