On Saturday, August 12th, The National Auction
Group, Inc. will offer the historic Bella Rose
Mansion in Ponchatoula, Lousiana. This enormous
Georgia-type mansion was custom built by Marion T.
Fannally, the very wealthy "Strawberry Monarch."
On this same day, a magnificent collection of
antique gaming equipment will be offered separately.
The provenance on the collection is impecable. The
late District Attorney of New Orleans, Jim Garrison,
protected the collection during the FBI's infamous
crackdown on illegal gambling in the 1950s.
Garrison seized this collection from some of
New Orleans more famous establishments including
O'Dwyes, Club Forrest and the Roosevelt Hotel.
In the beochure are illustrated crap tables and
Black Jack tables from Club Forrest. 1936, 37 and
1947 Mills from Club Forrest. A set of five
Jennings Chiefs of different denominations. A wheel
and other antique mechanical games.
-----
I mention this because I've been to these types of
auctions in the South, and from the time the
brochures are printed to the day of the actual
auction, additional material is added on auction day.
