"In other words, Archie....I think you can now discuss your thinking with the club officers since the club has officially announced that old manufacturer's records are important to the club and that the club is seeking such." JB
Not so fast John! Don't you think that the membership is entitled to know some answers to a few very specific questions first? I see Gene T. has indicated to the effect that "everyone knows who is in possession of these mold records"... yet you have stated that you don't know.... and I don't know ... and I'll bet there are literally hundreds of club members who don't know! To my way of thinking, that is the person who stands to benefit the most by the sale of these records; whether the club is the eventual purchaser or an individual or a corporation is the buyer.
2. I just read that post you have referred to from one of the incumbent club officers who emphatically stated that the club should purchase these records.
(No matter what they cost?????? ... I don't think so! May I ask, what is a "reasonable" price?)
3. IF the majority of the five current club officers vote YES to purchase these records... who will be the official custodian of them? The club Librarian? If so, does the club librarian simply mail these valuable (expensive) records out upon request, as he does other materials in the club library? Who handles or responds to the requests for infomation that club members are seeking about these molds? The club Librarian? The President? The VP? Secretary maybe? Or is it the Membership Officer? Does the club assess a fee to those members who are seeking mold information? Do the club officers have carte blanche access to these records?
4. Are the current officers asking these questions among themselves, PRIOR to purchasing these records.... or do they simply have a blank check to spend whatever the asking price is on these "valuable" records?
5. Should the club approach CHIPCO, PAULSON, BUD JONES, for THIER records of more contemporary chip issues .... which many club members have just as much interest in? How about ANCHOR GAMING's records to satisfy the quest for knowledge that Silver Strikers are seeking, or any of the many gaming token manufacturers records?
These issues, and more, should be thoroughly discussed before ANY decision is made to purchase what some members adamantly feel the club "must have" .... or it is forever lost.
With all due respect, please forgive me for asking these pertinent (and quite possibly embarrasing) questions John, but someone has to raise these issues before signing that blank check for thousands of dollars and turnning it over to an un-named individual who has something to sell. Why is this seller's identity such a big secret????
Just my candid thoughts..... For those inquisitive minds who want to know more ... "FOLLOW THE MONEY"
Oh, I forgot; money is not important... "preserving the history is" .....
