I understand this, Gene. As I stated, I have no
problem with Howdy charging for the information, as
business is business...BUT, If I feel there is a way
for club membership to save a buck to gain
historical information so they do not have to pay
for each chip they wand to ID, I will suggest what I
feel is best for the club and membership. Nobody is
coming down on Howdy. Howdy has done more than his
share as being a top contributor in our club and
hobby. My referring to the $5 or 2-chip schedule of
payment was only quoted to clarify that there is a
charge (as you quoted) and this information does not
come free. Thus, I suggested on this bb (and will
continue to do so) that the club needs to get
involved and understand it would benefit membership
if we as a club purchase whatever records we feel
are important. The club is here to help itself,
first. I'm here to also help the club. Archie
stated that he feels membership should not think $5
is too much to pay for someone's knowlage regarding
the ID of one chip and compares that charge with a costly
grading charge numistmatist pay for rare and expensive
coind. I do not agree with him. I AGREE WITH WHAT
BARRY POSTED LAST EVENING. Just because you happen
to be a kindhearted person who shares whatever
information comes your way, doesn't mean that you
will be able to respond to every ID question that
pops up in the future without charge, but if the
club owned such information it would be FREE for the
asking.... to everyone in the club. Archie feels these records are only good
for mold information and very little more. Steve
Piccolo made it quite clear that it's not only the
illegal chip collectors who are interested, but
legal casino chip collectors, too...and gave his
reasons why we need to have access to such records
at a low cost by also suggesting club ownership.
I'm trying to be as selfless as possible with this
issue...and I suggest other do the same. The poor
suggestions that follow with infomation that these
records are costly to a membership where not eveyone
collects chips isn't too accurate as far as general
interest is concerned. I don't collect tokens or
strikes, but I would never say that the club doesn't
need this information because not eveyone in the
club collects tokens. Membership needs to undestand
that we are a club working together for the benefit
of eachother as a whole...not seperately.
