In 1996, Mahoney's Silver Nugget quietly made and released a very unusual chip. It was a 25c chip which was dated, "1996." Only 200 were issued and they were nearly impossible to obtain.

Every year since then, the Silver Nugget's process of issuing a dated 25c chip has been repeated. Chips were issued in 1997, 1998, 1999, and earlier this year, 2000.

Beginning in 1999, a 50c chip was made. In 2000, 2000 of the 50c chips were issued, making it the only chip in this series which most collectors were able to obtain.

At this year's national convention in Las Vegas, I was fortunate to be able to obtain a few complete sets of these very unusual chips. All are unused.

Bear in mind also that the sale of the Silver Nugget, as reported in the Las Vegas papers, is currently pending. If this sale is finalized, this fractional set is likely to now be complete.
