Hi John; I'm still confused by your conflicting message in the post I originally responded to.... but I'll let that one go for now.
John; Here we go again! It's not up to the relatively few folks who respond on this bulletin board how the club's money is to be spent. It's up to the ENTIRE membership; the bulk of whom are not on-line, and who are not privy to what is, or is not discussed on-line. Hell, they don't even know who is running for office yet .... and there are quite possibly a few more candidates announcements forthcoming when the call for nominations is published in the magazine.
I recall quite a few years ago that some members were clamoring for the club to purchase obsolete chip dies .... or that the hobby would be flooded with couterfiets. Gene Trimble posted right above your post that more chip manufacturers hub records were being put up for sale by additional manufacturers. I ask the readers of this bulletin board..... Are these additional records going to be available for up to $10,000 each also.
Here is Gene's quote, to save everyone the trouble of looking for it: "This one is on the hubs. Some Square in Circle and Die Square records are available. T Mold and Harp mold are coming soon. I am looking at the Hourglass and H mold records in Nov. Hopefully we can get the price for them to an afordable level."
I have a reasonable question: Who is offering to sell these records all of a sudden? Who is benefitting from their sale.... the club, or the seller? Maybe they could be put up for sale to the highest bidder on Ebay? As Gene has eloquently stated, I don't care who owns them as long as the club has access to them. I say, "follow the money"; who is selling, who is buying?
As for your comparison to the $7000 food & beverage convention commitment vs. these all of a sudden all-important records and your disparaging offensive reference to a open face turkey sandwich.... I'll let the readers of this board who attended the "best yet" convention be the judge to your insensitive remark that so many volunteers worked so hard to provide on behalf of the members in attendance.
As for the dues increase that one of the candidates has proposed, please explain to me what the dues increase is for and maybe I would support it. A building fund, YES. Musty old records, that in my opinion relatively few club members are interested in, or who might be inclined to benefit from by charging outrageous prices for "newly discovered" illegals? Absolutely NOT!
TIME TO TAKE ANOTHER POLL! BY CLUB MEMBERS ONLY, VIA A MASS MAILING .... LET THOSE WHO RIDE DECIDE!
