Before I start I thing it is a great idea to have our own building for the purposes mentioned but I would like to bring up some thoughts that are more long term then the purchase of the building. I bring these up from the fact that the Florida United Numismatist has has a building fund for years now and it has grown to the point that we can purchase our own permanent building to house records, exhibits and collections. I will also bring out that many long time member collectors have stated that they will not turn over their collections to FUN until we have our own building. Sounds great right? The catch was that we may have enough money to get the building the maintenance on the building and property, taxes, full time curator (or staffing), insurance, alarms and all
the other factors that business needs to run on a daily basis (phones, faxes, computers, exhibit cases, etc.) have to be figured in a budget that the club needs to bring in on a yearly basis to support the ongoing expenses of such a project. Yes you can bring in a corporate sponsor (or more than one) for the building but for long term control we need to fund this internally and thus the club needs to be on a much sounder platform then it currently is for such a project. (just some food for thought)
