Re: Club Future (Long Post)
In Response To: Re: Club Future (Long Post) ()

Jim Kruse's idea has much merit. Jim had discussed his proposal at the 2000 convention to a few members who would listen. I didn't think he was crazy then, and I don't think he is now.

Several years ago, another Jim (Jimbo) had made comments to the effect that under the club's tax-exempt non-profit status, the then sizeable amount of money in the club treasury should not be used for day to day operations... but should be earmarked for specific purposes. Other than the $1000 Reward Fund that was established after one of our west coast club members suffered a burglary where his entire collection was stolen, I know of no other fund that has been set up. Perhaps a portion of the club's "surplus" could be earmarked towards such a building fund... and tax-exempt donations could be solicited from casino-related industries, corporations and individuals. If it is eventually used sometime down the road for that purpose, all well and good. If not, no harm has been done. The money is still there but would answer the question, "what is the club going to do with the large sum of money in the Treasury?" Having said that, the club cannot afford to undertake all the suggestions that have been made on this bb. The elections coming up in 2001 will be very important decisions for all of us. The newly elected board will be deciding where to spend some of this money that some club members are clamoring to "invest in the future". I think position statements will be very important to the voters in this regard. I also think that much of this discussion belongs on the club bulletin board; where I intend to post a copy of this message.
