I think we have a difficult question to solve here. How do we increase membership funds without decreasing membership or lowering attendence at the convention.
This year as a first time dealer at the convention, I learned alot about the economics of selling chips. When you consider all the fixed costs of being a dealer at the convention: airfare, hotel, meals, table cost and so on, it is very difficult to make any profits by selling chips. I bet most dealers are there to add to their collections and spend time with friends they only get to see once a year. You cannot make any money selling chips, unless you have old rare chips you picked up at face value from the casinos. So we need away to cover convention expenses, in a way that is not at the expense of the dealers. I would say a good start is an admission charge to the trading session, at least cover the cost of the refreshments.
