I have an Allstate Ins. Co. rider--the kind they issue for art collections (and I assume one that covers coins and stamps). Originally, I furnished letters from two well known members of our organization estimating the value. Allstate sent the rider. A year later my agent said Allstate wanted an itemized list of my collection so I sent them a copy of my inventory. A year or so after that the company wanted me to provide them with photographs of each chip. I told my agent to tell his boss that they were welcome to come to my hovel and spend the day taking pictures but that I would not take pics of 100,000 chips. About six years ago my agent informed me that in two more years the company would not renew the rider. It seems that a Utica, NY coin collector claimed a burglary and Allstate paid out a bundle. Quite by accident his agent was watching a local auction on TV and there was the guy peddling his "stolen" coins. I said OK and said I would find an insurer that would take the collection as well as the homeowners and auto policies I had with Allstate. I haven't heard from them since.
Find out what Allstate wants in the way of proof of value. If you will send me a copy of your inventory I will appraise it free for you.
