Hi Everbody.
Okay lets talk about this stuff.
I see people on here but up post saying i can see my self paying $100's for a obsolete chip but no way for a Limited Edition Chip.
Why is that???????????
Okay first off i believe ever collector cares what their collection is worth.
We want it to increase it , because we know its always a safety net, and if we ever die and pass it on i want my kids to get something valuable and that will help them in live (FIRST GOTTA GET THE KIDS :) )
When i was younger i started collecting Baseball Cards but got tired of it fast because i pumped hundreds of dollars into it and nothing was ever worth anything. I pay $50 for a card and be lucky if i can get $10 . Rarely ever could you brake even or make a penny. So I think value of your collection is always a factor.
I think most members in our hobby collect LE chips now. Even if the collect Obsoletes the also collect LE's , So i think the Chip market is going towards LE's mainly. Obsolete's are getting scarry.
Now I love obsolete chips. I love the history. I love the design and the inlays. I love the have a story. But what scares me is that today somebody announces oh yeah i found a new chip. Worth $750. Over the next year more and more and more and more comming out. It still sells for $750 but only because dealers are holding the price so past customers won't get upset. Being a dealer i saw stuff behind the scenes where people have more chips that they admit.
Now this is not self publicity but when i get chips, I will tell my customers exactly what i have or what i know of to exits. Can I gurantee there is no others out there no way. I have 1 chip. For all i know some lady has a box somewhere. Or like the Horseshoe stuff. Obsoletes we never know what's out there. I tell my customers if you buy a chip decide if you like it if you want it. Don't buy just because you are missing it because that can get expensive.
In obsolete's a $500 chip is not even rare. Its a more desired chip. Which probably several dealers have. I have sold a chip for $10,000 and $6000 those are the rare chips. You get no Gurantee's. I love obsolete's but sometimes they scare me.
Now Limited Edition chips i love those. I believe Kathie Asked well what if the order more chips. And then you are screwed. Well nevada gaming comission has rule now if you but Limited Edition on the Chip you can not reproduce it. Would have to be a different design. Let's say you Make a chip and but on Limted to 500 chips. But you make 550. The casino and the chip company would get fined.
And the only case i can think of where that ever happended was the NEW YORK NEW YORK and as you can imagine they probably got in trouble it seems like they pretty much quit their chip program. When i sell a LE i can feel good. I tell my customers look their was 1000 made and that's it. They are out there. Some Chips are more popular than others. Like Hard Rock CHips are hard to get they are just very popular. I bet there is 2 or 3 thousand people alone collecting the Hard Rock Chips. Now People are saying oh my god $400 for a cure chip. They made 250. 250 is nothing. Those 250 will be all in collections before the convention is over. And once that happens The chip will be alot more than $400. I believe now several people offered them at $200 anyway. See if you can get a Cinco De Mayo Chip in a year from now for $500. I highly Doubt it. But again buy what you like. I see no reason why everyone has to have everything. That's why i collect almost every field . I always see something i like and don't have to go for the most expensive piece all the time. But i know one think I rather pay $400 for a rare LE chip than $400 for a Obsolete that i don't have. Because I know how many there are of the LE. The Obsolete you never know. But i have paid those prices for obsolete's before. Because i really liked it.
Also if you think about it what are our most valuable LE's Chips. The 2 Hard Rock $25 chips must be right up there. So collecting LE's is not really that expensive.
I don't think the Hard Rock is out to get us. I just think they don't know any better. The Guy who ran the chip program at the Trop is now at the Hard Rock.
And he is use to makeing 100 $25 chips and have some the whole day or a couple of days. I am sure you will see The amount of chips made increase fast. I am sure there will never again be a Hard rock 100 issued like the cinco de mayo and i don't think there will be many with the amount of 250.
Let's face it. This hobby is growing rapidly.
Sorry for the long post.
Lets hear your thoughts.
