What makes these two chips so different from each other is not the slightly similar scrimshawed subject, but the placement of the concentric circles. Note that the chip on the left has a much wider rim and the field is shaded. Though not visible, the edge of the "wide rim" chip is a butterscotch color and the "narrow rim" is natural. Both chips are not seen in the revised edition of Antique Gambling Chips because I located them just after the book went to print. The chip on the right (ID-CS) was coded and listed in the 1998 New Codes Supplement with a value of $300-$400, of which the chip performs very well in the $400+ range. There is a similar chip in AGC (ID-CT) with a pigmented rim. It, too, carries an "R" value of $300-$400. The "wide rim" chip is "RARE"...a word I hardly use in any description. It's available for trade of any "U" value chip striking my fancy, or $750.
