Re: Bummer-bottom line
In Response To: Re: Bummer ()

What most people don't realize about a business accepting credit cards is, the business also pays a percentage fee on the purchase for accepting that form of payment. It varies depending on who you chose to do your credit card processing, but it usually runs between 1.6% to 3% charged to the merchant!

They are tacking this fee onto debit card transactions as well, so when you use a debit card to pay for lunch, the guy who owns the restaurant pays for the processing of the transaction.

I dropped AMEX from my acceptable list of credit cards for a number of years because they took two months to credit a purchase to my business account, yet made the cardholder pay it witin 30 days.

I completed my first PayPal transaction last weekend as a seller. They have my bank account number for making deposits, and they can use those funds (make money on the float) while not charging me or the buyer for the privilege of an electronic transaction all day long as far as I'm concerned.

Stolen credit card numbers are a different matter, and isn't something that I'd fault this particular service just because a thief chose to use the stole card number on it.
