Right you are - incidences of package theft are miniscule in percentage terms. But where is your grasp of statistics? Since multi-millions of packages are being shipped, that means THOUSANDS are being pilfered. But don't take it from me, try the CEO's of the shipping companies. They'll tell you that the number one problem in their companies is internal theft, and it is an ever-escalating problem.
I agree completely that the U.S. Post Office is by far the most reliable carrier. But if you aren't aware that even they fire and prosecute hundreds of people per year over this, you probably should be. I have never had a problem with them myself, gladly, and it is known in the industry that they have a tremendous record. You're a little bit like the 7-11 cashier who has never been robbed saying "I don't understand what all the fuss is about, there's a 99.9% chance I'll never get robbed." She's right.
