That's exactly right, Archie. I have hesitated to address this subject on the board, but it is long overdue.
The people we are insuring against are the people who handle the package. For anyone who thinks mail theft doesn't occur, the best thing I can say is once it happens to you, you will realize exactly how vulnerable you are to it. For those of you in Vegas, go ask the "movers" if mail theft occurs. Once you hear those stories, you will never ship with the same carefree attitude again, regrettably.
So many of the comments on this board are directed at the shipper or shippee being trustworthy ("I only deal with people I trust"). That misses the entire point. Every time I receive a package marked "casino collectibles" (or something similar), before I even open it, I cringe at the thought of how vulnerable that package is. Why advertise what is in it? When I see a package like that, I know the shipper is oblivious to the possibility of mail theft. Which is the way everyone is, until it happens to them. So just don't ship anything very valuable is the best move.
