PLAYBOY opens London club in '66. The problems started with the purchase of the Victoria Sporting Club then owned by Norwich LTD. The club was closed in '78 after a raid uncovered evidence of fraud, theft and illegal gambling. In '79 regs cancelled the license; Playboy appealed under grounds it was a former operator's problem, and Playboy won the appeal. In '81 their ticket was challenged again before the British Gaming Board. At issue was the handling of customer's checks (credit was not permitted in UK casinos). The charges led to dismissal of some top executines; Playboy was in and out of court, and after 16-years of operation in the UK Playboy was out...as per Clement McQuaid, "Gambler's Digest."
I'm sure there is more information out there, but I'd rather have the chips and plaques, instead.
