Hi Robert,
There has been some conversation on this bb in the last few weeks regarding the VS/$5 Arodie chip. David Sarles is awaiting a gentleman in his 80s who has some of these chips (also the $25) to inform him as to where they're from, exactly. Richard Price has also found a phone directory with the Villa Sierra ad which names two people who may have been the owners at the time. In Harvey J. Fuller's "Index of Nevada Gambling Establishments" we don't see any names for an owner, but on page 61 of "The Life and Times of a Gambling Magnete" we read Virgil Smith's notes saying that he an Bill Harrah ran the gambling concessions at the Villa Sierra, Colbrant's (before he bought the place), Christmas Tree, Sky Tavern, Open Door and the Cedars. It seems as though some more of the yellow $5 chips have surfaced in Reno, Nevada, as I recently purchased three from a woman in Carson City for next to nothing. Both the woman in Carson City and one of the two woman in California who I bought the chips from mentioned they were from Villa Sierra. One of the woman who had both the Villa Sierra and the $100 and $5 WC El Rancho Vegas chips had no idea as to where they were from and confirmed it with others in California. Other than myself, the woman in Carson City and one of the two woman in California I bought the chips from said they're from Villa Sierra. I also notice the chip being offered for $150 in our club magazine. Perhaps we'll have additional information from someone else who has information which I believe may be of some interest.
JB
