You make a point that was not overlooked by IGT or the casinos. For some, especially the "occasional" tourist, there is a certain romance about the handle, the "one armed bandit." Even though it's a ruse, it's a hydralic loaded device that trips a switch, slots with "mechanical" spinning reels still have handles. And being usually 5 coin or less games, they lend themselves well to coin play. There is indeed a certain romance with the coin on these machines. I have a friend from Portland that comes to Harrah's 2 or 3 times a year. He plays the dollar slots, and always plays with coin, never from the credit meter. He pulls the handle maybe 50% of the time. Varies his play between 1 and 2 coins. He thinks he has a "system." That is why it is an important part of IGT's EZ Pay strategy that slot machines have BOTH ticket printers AND hoppers. Give the player a choice, give the player what he/she wants.
