I would have bit for George Martin, because he played so much on their albums did aranging, recording, and took no credit. Billy Preston, because he got credit for the album, as part of the recording group. Pete Best, because he was a Beatle, before he was replaced by Ringo. (always the controversy, who really played the drums on "love, love me do". Brian Epstein because of his promotions skills.
Now what about Clive? The guy who plays anvil on "Maxwell's Silver Hammer?" Or the Eric Clapton parts, attributed to George Harrison? (Something and In the End come to mind as two obvious cases.)
