I agree with your comments about the Li/Ion batteries and to shop around both locally and on the web.

One thing to think about is what if you are out on a week long camping trip - where do you plug in the recharger? Yes, this is one example of an extreme case, yet it may be important to someone.

Another thing to remember, is that if you are in a remote area and the Li/Ion battery goes south - finding a replacement battery may not be possible or at least very entertaining...
