Roulette chips, for the most part, are made ugly to begin with. They are made cheaply because they are made in very small quantities. They belong to the casino, can only be used at the table being played, can't be used in anyother game in the casino. Removing them from the table is disruptive to the normal operations of this game, and is viewed by casinos as stealing. I share that view. IF a roulette chip doesn't have a denomination plainly imprinted on it, taking one, or a stack (as some collectors promote) is wrong, as the chip(s) can be reintroduced at a later time at the same game with a higher declared value than it(they) had when originally removed.
I play a lot of roulette in Las Vegas. I respect the casino's view of roulette chips, i.e., they belong to the casino and aren't available to walk out the door like every other type of chip (tournament chips being another execption). If it has a cash value on it, feel free to pocket it. If it doesn't, you are looking for trouble when you take them.
