The tip I leave depends on the person. If they are helpful (or at least appear to be) I leave a tip even if they come back empty handed. If the person doesn't do anything except snap we don't have any ... then I punt the tip.

The amount varies as to the purchase price. I rarely purchase chips with a total face value over hundred dollars, so anywhere from $1 to $5 is usually the range I work with - again depending on the service.
