The Royal Americana was at 305 Convention Way here in Las Vegas. My room mate (Don Britt)was the general manger of the hotel & casino. The hotel was purchased by Horn & Harder who owned burger kings in the North East, the cafeteria's in the New York areas and Handover Mail order house. The casino was a side line they (we,I was a investor) were very sorry than we got involed.Had outstanding loans of 18 million tied to prime. Jimmy Carter days,I.E. 20%interest rates. If I remember right we lasted about 18 months.Had 560 employees, had great Maine Lobster, tank on the second floor, where you pick your own. I spent maybe 100 nights in the hotel. On the top floor we had 8 suites. We had one live gaming area of about 6 blackjack tables, a roulette table and maybe 300 slots.Yes we had, that I can remember $5.00,$25.00 and $100.00 chips. Most of the time table limits were $100.00. We sold out to the paddlewheel people at a great loss. This was years before I started collecting chips. I remember well boxes of chips in the safe, not just ours but others from all over town.We took all casino's chips if you were willing to play.I Remember well the MGM fire and watching from top floor rooms. Also remember well the night they (GAMING CONTROL) raided the Stardust cage during the Allen Gulick days. Our casino manger was Allen Mesas, him & Don when on to become president and vice-president of Bally's Manfacturing for many years. This brings back many stories and memories of days in the wide open Vegas. All three of us were single. What a town!!!!!!!!??????
Hope I didn't bore you, just kind of got carried away. I have caught up a few higher level fromer employees and none of them know what happen to the chips. How could their be none know to exist??? More later if their is interest. Mike Spinetti
