*Note 1: see Scott Ray's BB post #64676 dated 4-11-2000 at 11:22 which attributes this chip to the Delta Club as follows: "I bought this chip and license on ebay about a year ago from William Bowman who lives in Carson City. He said that he got it from his grandfather Len Haffey Sr. (who is listed on the license) and that it came from the Delta Club." The post included scans of the chip and the license.
*Note 2: CW notes that this chip was attributed to the Red Garter Saloon by collector John Johannes. But see Larry Hollibaugh's BB post #64625 dated 4-11-2000 at 07:18 which says that the attribution has been denied. And Gener Trimble's BB post #65039 dated 4-13-2000 at 9:43 am which confirms the denial based on statements by the RGS owner to a Reno collector (Richard Price; see note 4). Richard Price also advised me by email that he had written a story confirming the denial.
*Note 3: see Ron Lischak's BB post #64563 dated 4-10-2000 at 22:33 which contains scans of several Va City chips and the following comment: "Did you notice the variation of Red Garter $1 chips in my scan? The darker one clearly shows the brass shavings added for weight on the edge where the lighter one doesn't. Had to be two different orders." The scan shows two RGS $1 chips, one of which is noticeably darker than the other.
*Note 4: see Richard Price's BB post #64659 dated 4-11-2000 at 11:02 which shows a scan of this chip. Richard also emailed me regarding this chip as follows: "The Red Garter is a chip the we bought straight from Tiny Carlson the owner, when he first opened he ordered a box of these from BC Wills in Reno but by the time he took delivery for his one table he added another table so put in a large order to TK Specialties for the horseshoe mold chips. He removed these from the table and replaced with horseshoe mold chips. When we bought the box from him there were only 98 chips in the box as he had given 2 away to a couple of his old casino pals in VC. These have been in our hands for about a year and we have sold about 75% so we don't have many left."
*Note 5: CW lists this chip w/ the following note: "These chips, initialed "WC", were discovered in Virginia City. However, they were originally manufactured for another club -- then brought and used here."
If anyone has additional information about Virginia City chips, I'd be happy to have it and will update this listing as appropriate if more information is forthcoming. ----- jim o\-S
