You may have your "do not print graphics" option turned on within the word program. to turn it on, you must access the menu on one of the preference options. I cannot remember which option screen it is, but if you go to help, type in graphics (or try "printing graphics") you may find the exact way to check to see if this is the problem.
I have word 2000 and the below example is accessed by going to tools;options;print, choosing drawing objects.
