Andy; I remember that day very well.... and it happened just the way you said it did. About 60 or more A.C. Chapter members assembled at the Baltimore Grill, a block away from Tropicana, for our annual Christmas Pary, following our Chapter Meeting. Annie was seated at the same table as I, along with a dozen or so chapter members enjoying some pizza and beer and light chipping conversation, when she pulled out this double-sided error chip and said that she had it for sale on Prodigy for $75, but that it didn't receive any interest. I told Annie, "hell, I'll give you $100 for it right now". Well that started a bidding frenzy and the chip was being passed around the room, from table to table, and additional offers for the chip were fast and furious. When the bidding was stalled at $300, Tom Duffy said, "hang on, I want to make a call to a friend who collects errors." Tom came back shortly with a bid that topped the $300 mark, which was topped by someone in attendance. Tom went back to the telephone and got another increased bid from his friend.... which was topped again. Finally, Tom's friend said $400 and that shut up everyone in the room ... until they realized what had just happened and instant applause broke out. True story!
By the way, I believe that the chip was a double-sided Castle Wizard chip from 1994.
