Hi everyone!
As an interesting tidbit, I never intended to create this "Millennium List" when the casinos first started issueing Millennium chips. The list started after Paul Sax asked on this board if anyone knew what Millennium chips have been issued to date. I then took a few minutes of my time, went through my personal commemorative list, and noted the ones I knew of in a response to him. Many others then responded to Paul's question, and to my response, with language to the effect of "add this to your list Mike"......thus giving birth to what I share with everyone today.
When the list was created, I added to it simply by someone telling me, or by someone posting to the board, that XXXXXX casino issued a Millennium chip. Most of the time I added it sight unseen. However, it became apparent as people posted scans to the board, as well as seeing the chips first-hand, adding in emails & more comments on the board, that many of these chips on my "List" were in fact New Years Eve chips, New Years Day chips, chips welcoming the new year, year only chips etc. that have been issued by casinos regularly each year. At the same time, it also became apparent, to me, that the distinguishing factor separating these chips/tokens was the word "Millennium". IMO the casinos who, for the most part, wanted to honor/commemorate the Millennium specifically with a chip(s) did so by including "Millennium" somewhere on the chip, whether it was on the face or the edge, just as coins/tokens issued to commemorate the Bicentennial were distinguished as Archie mentioned earlier. Besides, it has made my record keeping a whole lot easier. As it turns out, to date casinos have issued appx. 468 chips/tokens/SS with "Millennium" on them. (Several of which I'd place in the "silly" catagory or "the shameless attempt to make mucho money off of collectors" catagory. Even so, they were still made.)
As I mentioned before, this list was not meant to be "official" in any manner. However, as time progresses and chip historians make their marks by publishing their chip guides and record books, perhaps this list could be of some help to them as well as collectors who are in the process of completing their collections now. For the present time, I will also keep the section at the end of the list marked "Questionable/Attributed To (the Millennium)" for those who, in their opinion, feel these chips should be added to their own list.
Sorry for the long post and thanks to you all for your input.
