The Atlantic City Chapter held its bimonthly meeting on March 12,2000 at the Mardi Gras Room of the Showboat Hotel before an enthusiastic turnout of 125 members and guests.
The meeting opened with one minute of silent prayer in memory of Don Anthony who, for so many years, meant so much to this chapter. He only recently relocated to Las Vegas. He will be missed by all.
Mike Custodio delivered an interesting and highly informative lecture of the evolution of a Limited Edition Chip from the embryo stage of a creative idea to sketches and schematics, to commission approval, to casino internal camera and inspection approval, and finally the methodology for mintage quantity aand distribution. Well done Michael.
Through the coordinated efforts of Mike Custodio and Archie Black, the TAJ Mahal made available for distribution to Chapter members through Archie, twenty chips from its one hundred minted $100 Millennium chips. Archie advanced $2000 of his own funds to make this possible. The chips were distributed to $100 collectors at face value. It is not clear what the future of the remaining chips will be, or if they will ever be distributed in the conventional way. This is likely to be a scarce chip for Millennnium and/or $100 collectors.
John Turmel, the former owner of what Canadian Courts have decided to be the illegal "Casino Turmel" where he featured "No Rake Off" poker and "U-May Bank" Black Jack, brought some of his chips to the meeting and delivered an entertaining monologue on his unsuccessful efforts to stay one step ahead of the law.
Michael Resnick who operates the Gamblers Paradice in the Ocean One Mall in Atlantic City announced that, as of April 1, 2000, he expects to resume the 30 day chip auction that his brother Bob Mera coonceived and successfully conducted. The format will be tailored to fit a coordinated effort with CasinoBoy.Com to function both from his premises and over the Net so there can be national participation.
Finally, the trading was brisk and comradery the best. It was, as usual, a fun day for all. The next meeting is scheduled for May 21, 2000, place and room to be confirmed. Join us and have the time of your "chipping" life.
