My storage methods for most of what I collect are
"au naturel" and that's only because of the
diversity of type material I collect. Chips are
made to be in contact with each other whether
stacked vertically or horizontally, so I have no
problem with 2x2 coin boxes, 100-count racks or
tubes. My ivories are only in contact with ivory as
are my Mother-of-Pearl pieces. I do not buy the
standard coin tubes because some of my ivories are
large and will never fit...so I use
the larger, amber pharmaceutical tubes. I figure if
these are used to store medication...they must be
just fine and dandy for my little ole chips. <g>
Larger material such as Mother-of-Pearl plaques and
plastic plaques that are quite large are stored in
carton boxes. I've only mentioned the other than
usual type chip material because I do receive
inquiries qute often as to storage. Otherwise, I
started collecting like anyone else had with 3-ring
binders. When I exhibit portions of my collection I
also find it much easier and more compact to use the
above methods for quick setup and breakdown.
Everything is kept in bank vaults around town.
