Rarely is this type construction plaque found, and
rarely is one found in its original state of
preservation. The piece is ceramic.
CASINO MUNICIPAL DE NICE
The casino was built in 1881.
We're able to trace this monogram back to when metal
chips and early plastics were used;
circa early-20th Century.
The piece is rare, and it's perfect. I found them a
few years ago in central France...far from where
they were originally used. Five pieces were perfect
as is this example. Two of those were sent to
Europle, one is in a collection here in the US, and
of course the other is housed in my collection. The
balance of the find (5-pieces) are in not so nice
condition with srcatchy surfaces.
Prior to offering this example at auction, I would
consider a trade of either a rare French or Spanish
Mother-of-Pearl piece in comparable condition
(perfect), or an ivory poker chip in the "V" to "W"
range being problem-free without any inclusions seen
when candeled. Preferably of "50" or "100"
denomination.
Size: 92 x 52mm (3-5/8 x 2-1/8")
Though the red field looks blotchy, and the edge seems uneven...both are perfect.
Serial number: 138 obv. / 38 rev.
Sale price: $1,250
