I have mentioned elsewhere that I have no particular allegiance to the terminology I proposed (or the specific definitions, either). Your concern about the difference between "new" and "excellent" (or in trading card terminology, between "mint" and "near mint") is quite legitimate.

The exact terminology is not as important as the general concept.
