The objective I had in mind WAS a "pre-emptive strike" against a more detailed system. I share the "camel" concern; but fear a chip collecting variation on the "nature abhors a vacuum" theme. As long as there is no grading system, there will be pressure from somewhere to create one.
Nevertheless, as I will say in response to Larry's message, I think I could live with a clearly stated set of definitional terms which are similar in nature to my proposed "grading" terms. In essence, my proposal is nothing more than a series of definitions of some terms which can be used to describe chips in any event.
Let me make one thing clear -- I have no particular pride of authorship in the concept, the terminology or the specific definitions. I advanced this proposal as a starting point in arriving at a consensus among chip COLLECTORS as to what they want in this regard. I welcome the many comments which are being made in this thread and look forward to further discussion of the issue (on the boards and at the convention).
