Granted the new board has not inacted any new legislation, is this hobby really in a downturn? Stagnation? I wouldn't think things were so bad off if I didn't read and believe half the crap that's on this board. The hobby is what you make of it as an individual not what someone at the board level does or doesn't do.
One can only look at how ebay has affected and impacted this hobby and other hobbies more than any one or two board members have. I fail to see what or why we are so far off track that the current board or a new board can correct. What was going on 6 months ago?
This forum is available for everyone and anyone who wishes to share in the dissemination of information. But if you disect the posts, how much is very educational or pertaining to chipping? 50%, 60%, 75%,...
I'm more turned off by what I read on this board rather than the HOBBY, the board, or any grading systems. It appears we are stimulated and entertained by controvery, ie Sands chip, grading system, ebay police, quarterlies that don't arrive on-time, etc. I hear more and more chippers who are turned off by all the bickering going on. I know the dirty laundry that arose last week turned off numerous people. Maybe I'll have to take a break too.
I think the hobby is doing just fine. Why do we want to self impose more board intervention? Can we just trade chips and forget the other stuff? Am I way off base here? I don't feel the bulletin board is at all representative of the general membership. Is there a wave of dissatisfaction running throughout the general membership? I for one am still enjoying this hobby and collecting CHIPS!
Lastly, if a new member or perspective member came to the board and read the contents of this board, would they want to join the hobby? or the club?
As always, I welcome your input.
