Since no gaming in Hawaii, Boyd Gaming has marketed Las Vegas package deals to Hawaiians for many years. Primarily at the California Hotel & Casino in downtown Las Vegas, but also to the other Boyd properties downtown -- Fremont and Main St. Station.
I think Sam Boyd ran some Bingo and/or other gambling games in Hawaii after WWII, before coming to the off-shore So. California boats, then to Las Vegas. He cultivated a loyal following of Hawaiians since that time.
The Hawaiian theming at the California is an intentional marketing connection with that target market. That's one way to recycle some Hawaii tourist dollars back to the mainland!
