Archie that's because we are better than those coin collectors. Our BS rating goes all the way to 100% perfect. <G>
How a chip that has a nick and dirt and some other minor flaws, can be called MS-95 is a perfect example of why we don't need a grading system.
I'm quite happy with a real description rather than a slipper slope of inflated grading to make something worth more than average. I know what like new is. I understand used, even if it covers a wide range of chips. AND I know what worn means.
We can all understand sharp edges or warped, canceled, drilled etc.
Nothing against "the official" book, but introducing a grading system is only opening the door for more problems. You buy a chip that's supposed to be MS-95 and it comes (in others opinion) as MS-75. Now what?
Most chip collectors don't give a hoot about grading! You don't clean coins... we do clean chips. SO does a windex job raise the grade on a chip? Can of worms.
