Larry Trapp, the recognized authority on Newport, KY chips & clubs,
asked me to place this notice on the board as he is not on-line.
He recently found some HUB mold, "CC" (in a horseshoe), Mustard,
$5.00 on reverse. They were ID'ed by an ex cop from Newport as
used at the Copa Club, 333 Central Ave., Newport, 1940's-1961.
The Afro-American club was owned by Tommy Callahan and later sold
to "Screw" Andrews.
The Mason Co. card file on the chip reveals that the shipment was
sent to Mr. Dennis Shea, Trianon Ball Room, Terre Haute, IN, 2-8-38.
There were 200 Red
400 Blue 1.00 reverse
400 Yellow 5.00 reverse
Most illegal chips were not sent to the club or city of location.
Larry would have felt much better about the attribution of the chips
if the file card had a Newport, KY address and hopes to find additional
information. They are for sale by Larry at $20 each.
Write to him if you would like to order:
