I rummaged through my stuff and came up with these 8 different PLAIN, PLAIN INLAID CHIPS WITH EDGE SPOTS (INSERTS).

I am pretty sure these are relatively modern chips (1980's or so). The are not old. They are not crest and seal chips because they do not have litho (printed design) inlays. I called them "plain. plain" above because the inlays are plain (one color; no design printed on the inlays) and the mold is plain/flat ( no embossed rim design; that is, no hat&cane, no hub, no smallkey, etc.).

For newbies: sometimes we leave out what is important to a newcomer because it is obvious to oldtimers and poker chip collectors. These chips are typical generic inlaid poker chips. These chips (save the edge spots (inserts)) are made of two components: the clay base of the chip and the inlay. The inlay (here) is plain white plastic or laminated white paper. The inlays are die cut so as to be round and then further die cut (punched out) so as to have a design by profile/contrast (not printed). The bottom most chip shown below is a new-found Fleur de Lis plain inlay chip. (There are many common Fleur de Lis inlay chips; the one pictured here is a rare (new found; no dupes, sorry) variation.) Anyway, the important thing the newbie should know is that the design is seen by the contrast of the black clay base of the chip against the white punched out inlay. The black design you see in the center of the chip is the same black clay you see ringed about the rim of the chip; that is, the black clay peers through the inaly!
