A guy in Carbondale CO shot a dog that was on his property that belonged to a neighbor. He was within his rights to shoot the animal, it had been causing him problems for a while and the dog's owner's didn't attempt to keep it off of his property. The dog's owner's found a lawyer that would file a civil suit against the guy who shot the dog. .....not for shooting the dog, but for the anguish and pain suffered by their other PETS in the loss of companionship, to the tune of $24,000 .....!
I have many friends who are attourneys' at law. BS like this example is why people distrust the profession. We don't need or want a sue-happy society.
