I disagree, Jim. Although not a perfect system, the rating system is what makes the eBay phenomenon work. Most would not deal with a stranger unless his 'reputation' were known and on line. I look at it as a courtesy to someone who transacted business with me and a way of keeping the system working. In a way, kind of like voting in an election; your vote has zero significance in the final outcome of the election, but you do it because you believe in the system.
