I have been using my HP ScanJet IIcx since March 1995. Yup it is an old one, yet it has 400 dpi optical (9600 via software). Until a year or so ago, it was the highest optical resolution scanner on the market. This image was acquired at 360 dpi. When I scan chips/token/coins/photos etc I scan them in two resolutions 100 dpi (approx. 1:1) and 360 dpi. The former is for viewing on a computer screen; the later is for printing - that is a good rule of thumb is to scan at 1/2 the printers printing resolution.
I also use PhotoShop to finish creating the images I have been posting here...
