I'll agree with you Trav about the "dealer puffing".... but then doesn't that reflect negatively upon the dealer who obviously thinks that he/she has to resort to misleading, deceptive, descriptions in an attempt to sell his/her ebay chips? I think it does!
Do you think these same dealers would put these same chips in their display case at the Las Vegas annual convention, or at Arizona Charlies this week describing these chips as "rare"? I think not! They would be laughed out of the room! In fact, one of these ebay sellers who has several ebay lots currently being offered as "rare" has been a regular table holder at past CCGTCC Conventions.
Here's another interesting fact for some bb readers to digest. I've just received my copy of the February 1, 2000 issue of Numismatic News. There is a classification #633 (Gambling/Casino) that appears in the classified section of this well-respected weekly hobby newspaper. I've checked all 25 ads published in classification #633... and not ONE mentions the word "rare" to describe their chip offers. Oh there are a few from one advertiser in Roswell, NM who constantly advertises the make-believe $1, $5, $25, $100 Thunderbird & Titanic stuff for $7.95 and Kings Crown up to the $10,000 for $14.95 .... but why do you suppose that NO ONE misrepresents any chips as being "rare" in the newspaper as they do on ebay? Are people more honest in their newspaper dealings than they are on the electronic medium????
Just a few thoughts that cross my mind when I read some of this stuff. I guess some would call it a "crusade" on my part. I just like to respect truth and honesty and reject outright deceiptfullness to which a few others seem to have little or no problem with.
