Don, I must agree with you in general. But in my opinion it doesn't take a collector of any specific item, be it chips, tokens, or Hudson Hornets cars to attempt to set a value. (If your not buying the item, your appraisal is only an opinion.) The supposed value of any used item can only be considered subjectively, the real value is set by the amount of money the particular item sells for with some reasonable regularity. Or in the case of a "Unique" by that i mean, a one of a kind item that sold for $50,000.00, then $50,000.00 has been established as the item's value, to the seller and the buyer, and in all likelyhood will never again resell for anything less that that amount. Suppose I didn't particularly want that item, and announced I would only have paid $10,000.00. I certainly have not established anything regarding the "value" of the item. I've simply stated I would not pay that much for it, which has no bearing on value. In short, any item you own is worth exactly what anyone is freely willing to pay for it. Hopefully after having been given all known truthful information about the item.
